The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the vulnerability of Deafblind youth at risk of social isolation from their peers. Recognising its role in uniting deafblind youth, DbIYN launched 'Friends in Touch' a worldwide correspondence group, inclusive of all communication styles from pre-symbolic to formal. The goal of youth network leadership was to reach the unreached, taking 'Friends in Touch' to those whose lifeline is communicating with their peers. Friends in Touch' celebrates the solution to the many barriers that prevent in person contact with peers. The rising cost of travel, the restrictions impacted through the pandemic and cost of funding & communication / support & staff. Deafblind International Youth Network leaders recognise the emotional implications of isolation and loneliness within its membership. If global connections were to continue solutions needed to be inclusive, innovative and creative. 'Friends in Touch' is a programme that embraces the future in the way friendships are created, developed and sustained. The implications and success of the programme is testimony to the participants and their willingness to overcome their own feelings of solitude and remoteness.
